{{From the Archives}} Goal List 2012

Well, this is the last day of my time away from fresh blogging…it has been so nice to just relax and know that posts are still going up. And with my new iPhone, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, I still felt connected to y’all as I took care of my new little man ;)

This last archive post is a visit back to my goal list for 2012. I definitely have failed at some of these things, but I also excelled at others. Did you keep resolutions? I liked having a list instead of one big thing I wanted to “resolve” to do. Anyway, here it is!

New Year’s Resolutions. Most people make them. Most people hate them. Most people hate them because they don’t keep them, right?! Anyone make a resolution and not keep it or accomplish it? If I were honest, I wouldn’t only raise my hand, I would have to stand up, jump up and down, and say, “Me! Me! ME!” ;)

But this next year is different. Instead of some lofty goal like have abs by summer or something I don’t really feel passionate about, I thought about it. I thought and prayed about my passions. What do I really WANT? What things do I want to do that I am making excuses for right now because I am too afraid to make the plunge? What things did I label as “impossible” and not trust that if it was something the Lord wanted me to do, He’d provide for my needs? I started brainstorming the things that would help me accomplish these passions. Small things like a good planner {thank you Erin Condren} to the really big things like planning one or two days a week with a babysitter so that I can work on my business.

And they don’t only have to do with business. For example, this past year, I had an unspoken goal to lose weight. I lost 20 pounds before getting pregnant in July. It felt good to be at my goal weight and have clothes that I dearly missed fit again. So many years in the past have gone by with the scale only going up. So this year, I have a fitness goal – a measurable fitness goal.

I have a marriage goal. A family goal. Lots of things!! I have a LIST for this next year of things that can be accomplished in little bites to contribute to an overall goal. Its easier to accomplish your dreams when you break it down into pieces. Something doable…

For example, lets say you want to pay off your car balance that would not otherwise be paid off in the next 12 months. Instead of setting the “Pay off my car” goal, make the goal to pay off your car and take a step further by planning out the *HOW*. How are you going to do it? What are you going to do to help yourself accomplish this goal? What are you going to do when you feel discouraged and don’t want to anymore? What sacrifices are you going to make every month to make sure you can contribute more financially to your goal? How will you keep track of it? This will help you reach real goals, friends!!

So here goes…I am going to share with you mt 10 goals that I have for this next year that are measurable and have plans to back them up.

(1) Keep track of goals and stay motivated in a fun way ** I got an Erin Condren planner for Christmas that is AWESOME and is already helping me to plan out my monthly goals. {Currently keeping this goal…yay!}

(2) Learn more about blog design and web design ** I have registered for some classes that begin the first week of January! I’m SO excited! After this, if I still have more I want to learn and know about, I will pray about, think about, and write down goals to what I can do to learn more. {Another checkmark…this has been the funnest goal to upkeep.}

(3) Take a small-business e-course, something like this ** Two things…one, I entered a giveaway to win attendance to this e-course, and two, I am praying that if I do not win the giveaway that the Lord will provide a way for me to take the course. {I haven’t been able to do this one due to being able to afford them or not, but I have been doing lots of research, subscribed to lots of small biz email newsletters, and more. ;) So, not totally failed yet ;) }

(4) Revamp, rethink, and relaunch my blog and business ** This is a goal that kind of scares me. You see, I don’t really know what this will look like yet, so this goal is really dependent on the accomplishment of the previous goals. What I do know is that I would like to arrange for someone to watch my kids at least one, maybe two days a week so that I can have some quiet and concentration time to work on what I love doing. {Still in progress….}

(5) Run a half marathon ** Obviously, I have to pop this kid out first ;) heehee, but as soon as I get the go ahead from the doctor, I will be working on training for and running a half marathon. Articles like this and this will serve as my training schedule. My husband may join me in this goal, so we shall see. :) {Has yet to happen due to the huge belly I was sporting…but come 6 weeks post-partum, and we’re on it, baby!}

(6) Lose pregnancy weight and get back to my goal weight again ** This goes with goal #5 too because I know that getting into a running schedule will shed the extra baby fluff. :) After the half marathon, my plan for this goal is to run at least three times a week. {Again, once the 6 week wait time passes, I am all over this. Changes I have made: gone back to gluten-free and eating healthier.}

(7) Do one family outing every other week/twice a month {i.e. picnic, zoo, water park, etc.} ** This doesn’t have to be something expensive. Like I noted, a picnic only requires me packing up the lunch we will already be eating at home and take it to a local park. Specifically, this will be the entire family – hubby, me, and daughter. Not just me and daughter ;) {Okay, fail. We’ve been SO busy, but we have done quite a few little outings together.}

(8) Go out for date night every other Friday ** My husband actually did this before moving out of state. Every Friday night, we would go to a restaurant just the two of us…and if the budget didn’t permit that, we would go get coffee or go drive around. We just did something alone that allowed us rest and refreshment in our relationship. {FAIL.}

(9) Read one book a month ** I reserve the right to UP this goal!! lol – I LOVE reading…as a matter of fact, yesterday morning I opened a brand new Kindle for Christmas, purchased a 99¢ book that I had my eye on, and finished it that night. So, if this goal seems to be too easy, I might say one book every week or something. lol ;) Amazon always has free books too, so this isn’t really tied to a budget. :) {Kind of keeping?? Does reading the Hunger Games trilogy twice count as 6 books? ;) }

(10) Drink a healthy “green” smoothie 3-4 times a week for lunch and eat lunch every day I don’t have one! ** I have already started doing this the past few weeks and it has been AMAZING…its given me tons of energy, gotten some veggies in me that I may have not eaten ;), pumped me with vitamins, and left me feeling full and satisfied. I sometimes {ashamedly} don’t eat lunch because I am busy with the tot or just have lots to do…most of my day is spent snacking rather than eating mindfully. In addition to making a meal plan for dinners every week, I plan to make a lunch plan as well to accomplish this goal. {Fail. I had one yesterday, and as the Arizona weather heats up, I know I will have more. Just dropped the ball on this one for now, I guess!}
