So excited for you to meet my Dallas pal today, Jamie from Roubinek Reality. She’s as sweet as can be!! I am so excited for her growing family (girls…whoop whoop!) and the fun it will be with a new baby girl in the house. :)

Slowing It Down

So excited to be hanging out on Erin’s blog today!  As a Momma of two boys, I couldn’t be more excited for her to experience the other side of motherhood, BOYS!  I have two sweet boys of my own (almost 3 and 17 months), and man is it fun!

This summer, I’ll also be blessed to experience the side of motherhood Erin’s become a pro at….GIRLS!  Yes, we have a baby girl due at the beginning of August and I couldn’t be more excited!

If that wasn’t enough, I also have a 13 year old step-daughter and an 11 year old step-son.  To say we are a busy family is an understatement!

But, in spite of our constant busy-ness, I’ve learned how important it is to slow things down!

My two year old is no different from any other two year old and we’ve had our share of the terrible twos.  He tries to get negative attention, too, when he sees I’m busy or I haven’t given him the attention he thinks he needs.  He will hit his brother, knowing it will make him cry, and then I will have to stop what I’m doing to focus on him.

It’s frustrating when I really need to get something done, but it doesn’t take long for me to realize these boys are only small for so long and the housework will be there when we are finished playing.

Fill Up That Love Tank

Sometimes, the best thing I can do with them is take a little time to just PLAY, on their level.  I get down on the ground with them and we play with cars, or dinosaurs, or puzzles.  Whatever it takes, I want them to know they have my undivided attention.

Fortunately, after about 20 or 30 minutes, their love tank is full and I can move on to whatever I need to accomplish while they play independently and don’t beg for my attention in negative ways, like hitting or screaming.

Get Outside

When all else fails and both of my boys are having melt downs, we head right out our front door.  There’s a pool that takes up most of our backyard, so we spend our outside playtime in the front yard.  We’ve made the investment in some plastic Little Tikes toys that seem to hold their interest for at least another 20 or 30 minutes.

The fresh air and Vitamin D is so good for my crazy kids.  To be honest, it’s just as good for me to get outside, too!
Do you have sidewalk chalk?  It’s really inexpensive but can be so great for drawing, practicing letters, numbers, or anything really!

Another tool I keep in my back pocket for outside?  Well, not really because that would be messy :), but bubbles!!  Almost every child loves bubbles and the thrill of chasing them to pop them just breeds laughter!

I love it almost as much as they do!

Turn It Off

This is the hardest thing for me to do because I’m a blogger who LOVES all things social media, but the best thing I can do for my babies is to turn it off.  It almost pains me to type the last part of that sentence. I love all of the relationships I have because of blogging and social media.  Because of these, I feel like the stay-at-home job is nothing like it used to be when women were dealing with loneliness and the need for adult interaction.  Now, we have that interaction at our fingertips.

However, don’t be afraid to turn all of that off and enjoy the life God blessed you with.

Remember, they’re only little once and one day you will want this time back.
