Beauty Resolutions

So a little bit ago, I shared with you my Goal List for 2012 – which included 10 things that I wanted to accomplish in 2012. I later posted about keeping my family healthy with a fridge and pantry snack station – keeping yourself healthy on the inside is key to a healthy life! It is so important to be improving and living your life intentionally – making what you do meaningful.

Well, today I want to share with you a couple of beauty resolutions I didn’t mention. These are not simply “goals,” but more like “non-negotiables.” ;) Every mom out there knows that some days…okay, most days…you don’t get a shower. Sometimes not for the whole day, sometimes not until naptime, and sometimes not even until after the kids are in bed for the night. Recently, I got a haircut (finally, yay!) that helps with the grease in the morning issue, but sometimes I just need the grease to go away so I can run to the store or something! We also know just how good it feels to have a great hairstyle, right?! Like when you do your hair and think, “YES!” lol – it doesn’t matter if 30 seconds later, your toddler grabs your stylish do with peanut-butter smeared hands, at least it looked good for a bit. ;) And lastly, before kids, my nails were pretty. I was a regular manicure “getter” and the occasional pedicure as well. But when kids came along, I just didn’t have the time. I couldn’t justify someone watching my daughter for an hour (or her sitting in her carrier next to me) just so that I could get a manicure. Plus, the expense conflicted with diaper, formula, and baby needs. So that went out the window. My nails aren’t bad right now, but lets just say my toes haven’t seen color since before Halloween. Ick.

I know that life will not always be like this. I know eventually, the kids will be in school and I will have a few precious hours to myself during the day that will afford me an occasional beauty splurge. We all know just how wonderful we feel after leaving the salon, whether its with new hair, colored and pretty nails, or a freshly waxed brow that no longer looks like two caterpillars ;) It makes me feel good about myself, feel confident, when I get dressed, put on a little makeup, or do my hair…or all of the above! Don’t you feel good when you do those things? Aside from feeling good on the inside by taking care of your body, sometimes all a girl needs is a little TLC and she feels like a supermodel.

Because, don’t we all feel like this sometimes? ;)

Anyway, enter my beauty resolutions. Here are three simple ways that I can look good, feel good, and all at a great price.

1. Get dressed at least once a week for my husband. – There are lots of things I know my husband likes. He likes my hair down. He has favorites in my wardrobe. And since I don’t want him to feel like I only get completely ready for other people, I think it is important to look good for my man. This means putting more effort into my outfit where things like “comfy,” “cozy,” and “stretchy” are not my goals ;) I think once a week is more than reasonable for this!

2. Get products that make my beauty routine easier, faster, and fabulous! I have always LOVED Tigi products. They work, they do what they say they’ll do, and you can get them inexpensively at Walgreens. With a small investment, you could incorporate great products like Tigi Rockaholic Dry Shampoo to give your hair a clean look without the time it takes to shower and blow dry your hair. :) I also really love their root boost spray, which gives volume to limp hair. As one with thin hair, this is a lifesaver!!!

3. Take my vitamins. Of course, right now while pregnant, this is not even a question. But afterwards, I know it will be important to keep my body healthy and full of essential vitamins and supplements if I am going to even think about doing any of the physical things I have planned for 2012. I know a lot of people don’t bother to take a daily vitamin, but there are really inexpensive store-brand options at Walgreens that are just as good as the more expensive ones. Also, a sublingual (under the tongue) B-12 gives GREAT energy. Plus, there are also beauty benefits too – taking a multi-vitamin and other essential supplements make my skin look beautiful and my hair feel silky and healthy (when I wash it, lol).

I know that I will stumble and fail at these sometimes, but these aren’t things that I can just easily quit. Say I miss a week getting dressed nice for my husband…I can be back on the saddle the next week without any consequences! And it is always a plus for our sweet kiddos when we feel good about ourselves. It also teaches them the importance of taking care of one self. Eating right, taking care of your body inside and out, and making sure to spend a little time for just you…all valuable lessons.

So tell me, what are some of your beauty resolutions? Some things you’d like to incorporate into your life or daily routine that you can do inexpensively?
